If your business in Chennai, Coimbatore, Tiruppur or Hosur is planning to expand into Karnataka, Kerala, Telangana or other states, a new GST registration facility could make the process simpler.

⠀
The GST portal is introducing a 𝗺𝘂𝗹𝘁𝗶-𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗿𝗲𝗴𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗳𝗮𝗰𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆 designed to reduce repetitive data entry when applying for GST registration in multiple states.
⠀
𝗙𝗼𝗿 𝗲𝘅𝗮𝗺𝗽𝗹𝗲, imagine a Coimbatore textile manufacturer opening a warehouse in Bengaluru and a distribution centre in Hyderabad.
Previously, the business had to repeat much of the registration process for each state.
⠀
Under the new facility, the applicant can enter common business information, such as details of partners or directors, authorised signatories and goods or services, once.
The system then generates separate reference numbers for individual state applications, with common information pre-filled.
Businesses must still provide state-specific details, including the relevant business addresses and other required information.
⠀
𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁𝗮𝗻𝘁:
This facility does not provide one GSTIN for the entire country.
Separate GST registrations and state-specific compliance obligations continue to apply wherever registration is required.

For businesses with annual turnover between ₹5 crore and ₹500 crore, expansion often involves multiple warehouses, branches, manufacturing units or distribution networks.
⠀
Reducing repetitive data entry can help:

⠀
Before expanding, ask your finance or GST team to:
⠀
1. Map planned operations and registration requirements in each state.
2. Verify the latest GST portal instructions and facility availability.
3. Prepare common business documents and state-specific address details.
4. Plan for separate GSTINs, invoicing processes and ongoing compliance wherever applicable.
